“Lather, rinse, repeat” has taken on a whole new meaning at The Young and the Restless — and fans have had it. This week, the show revealed that Diane is the latest in a long — like, Cane’s-train-long — line of characters who have been abducted in recent years. The response from the audience has been, in essence, “No. Please, no. For the love of God, no, not again!”
On Reddit, Impossible_Copy_1990 called the twist “ridiculous” and suggested that the powers that be could just “pull up the script from three months ago, change the names,” and boom, here we are. “It’s the only thing they can write,” cried highstandards2023. “If I lived in Genoa City,” exclaimed Key_Recognition7830, “I’d get the [bleep] out of there.
“How come I am 61 years of age,” they added, “and have never been and have never known anyone who has been kidnapped?”
Maybe the poster is just lucky. Maybe most of us are. (We don’t know any kidnapping victims, either.) But on Young & Restless, abductions aren’t just a common occurrence, they’re frequent. A Reddit user whose handle is heydawn — and hey there, Dawn — put together a wild, handy list of all the times characters have been kidnapped/held hostage since 2023, when Cameron took Faith. Are you ready for this?
There have been a staggering 41 instances!
And “I’m not counting all the characters who were held by Cane in France — just Sharon and Nick — because they were actually locked up,” heydawn noted. “The rest were free roaming.” Also removed from the list were Charlie and Mattie “because they were only fake-kidnapped,” heydawn pointed out.
Perhaps we’ll get lucky and this will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Perhaps Diane’s abduction by Patty will break the cycle of “introduce a psycho, let the kidnappings begin, introduce a new psycho, repeat the pattern.” But, sadly, we doubt it.
