If you haven’t heard by now that Josh Griffith is out as headwriter at The Young and the Restless, well, we guess you just did! But you’re probably in the minority by this point. Because besides sharing the news, Soaps took to Facebook to ask folks what they’d like to see change with a new headwriter going forward. And boy oh boy did you all answer!
Hundreds of responses have come in and the enthusiasm over what’s to come nearly bowled us over! It’s impossible to get into everything, but Kathy Fraley boiled down a lot of the responses by saying she’d like to see, “stories which center around things that make sense! Not people coming out of mental institutions and folks who pretend to lose their memories and are nice to everyone [or] some fantastic software taking companies away…” And on top of that, enough with, “People doing stuff that should put them in jail!”
What kind of things would apply to that last part about jail? Well, we have a feeling you all know. If not…
“For goodness sake,” Charmagne Burton Shearrill exclaimed, “no more kidnappings! And please get a decent police department.”
The kidnappings came up a lot in the responses. And that makes sense since there have been so darn many of them lately! We can’t blame anyone for getting tired of it. We’re tired of it, too! Kidnapping (with little to no consequences) seems to have become the go-to move for just about everyone in Genoa City!
Going hand in hand with that was also what we’ll call The Victor Problem. For as beloved and integral a character as he is, recently, it’s seemed like Victor can do anything, no matter how horrible, and always come out of it unscathed. Heck, half the kidnappings recently have been his doing! Victor’s formidable, but the show’s been writing him like Batman. No matter what, he comes out on top.
As Christine Hazlett summed it up, “I would like to see Victor mellow out a bit and not ‘win’ all the time. It’s not realistic.” And Lynn Bencivenni writes, “Someone needs to beat Victor… Cane or Billy. And set up a rivalry for the next generation of Newmans.” Plus, she’d like to see “a new family that works for Jabot or Newman,” or even have their own business. or has a business that they go to and has kids that can interact with the others
Jackie Martin on the other hand is just, “tired of the corporate shenanigans and greed. Victor does not need to attack the Abbotts or vice versa every year.” And a new family would be great, but she’d like a bit more variety because, “Not everyone in the world is super rich, so how about a struggling family.”
And Jenifer Anderson wants to see, “More romance and less business. Bring back summer pool parties and Halloween costume parties. More fun stuff.”
