Matt and Phyllis may be headed for trouble of a different kind
The first person Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) connected with when he came to Genoa City was Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), and their scenes have wasted no time establishing chemistry. Matt can keep up with Phyllis, and Phyllis clearly enjoys someone who can match her wit.
Next week’s preview hints that their dynamic may be shifting from playful banter into something more personal. While the two are out for dinner at the Genoa City Athletic Club, Matt appears to float the idea of an actual date — and Phyllis does not exactly look horrified by the possibility.
But if Phyllis is intrigued, that does not mean the people around her will be. Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) is not about to see Matt as some charming new prospect for Phyllis. She sees him as the monster who terrorized her and her family. That history matters, and it is likely to hang over every interaction Matt has in Genoa City, no matter how flirtatious things get with Phyllis or anyone else.
This week, that tension is not staying theoretical for long. Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) provokes Matt, which is not surprising given everything Matt has put Sharon’s family through. So even if Matt is sincere about wanting to get closer to Phyllis, any possible romance is arriving with a lot of baggage.
Nikki’s health crisis is worse than she thought
Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) is facing a week that looks increasingly frightening. After experiencing sharp headaches and blurred vision, Nikki receives devastating news about her health, but instead of immediately telling Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) the truth, she keeps it from him.
That decision only adds more pressure to a situation that is already spiraling, especially as Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) urges her mother to stop hiding what is going on and come clean to Victor before things get worse.
Unfortunately, things do get worse. Nikki’s condition continues to deteriorate as the week goes on, forcing Victor to go to great lengths to help her. Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) is also pulled into the situation and asked to keep a secret, which suggests Nikki may be trying to control the flow of information for as long as she can.
And by the end of the week, Victor makes a surprising discovery about Nikki’s diagnosis. That discovery is being positioned as one of the week’s biggest turns, but whether it offers hope, raises more questions, or points to a larger problem, the Newman family is clearly heading toward answers they may not be prepared to hear.
Jack and Kyle take a dangerous risk to save Diane
Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) is running out of time to get Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) away from Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) and the chaos she has brought back into the Abbott family’s life.
Patty is not content to lurk in the background either. She threatens Jack early in the week, making it clear that she is still very much in control of the situation. That threat sets the tone for the week as Jack weighs his options and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) follows a lead in the search for Diane.
Jack is desperate enough to start thinking in riskier terms, and by Friday, he and Kyle are taking a big risk with Patty in hopes of finally turning the tables. If Jack can lure Dr. Laurence Markham (Jere Burns) away and get to Diane, he may have a shot at ending this nightmare.
The problem is that Patty has never been easy to outmaneuver, and every attempt to get ahead of her tends to come with collateral damage. For Jack, though, there may not be any other choice.
