At the Abbott house, Jack’s frantic because he hasn’t heard from Kyle. He just wants him and Diane back and for them all to be OK. Looking at the text he sent Markham, he declares that this all ends tonight.
As Jack pours a drink, Patty creeps up on him in a silk robe and husks about being naughty. She complains about him giving her mixed messages and takes his hand, blabbing about his lifeline. Jack tries getting rid of her, but she brings up his bullet scars from the first time she broke his heart. This time it’s not his skin he needs to worry about.
Jack tells Patty threats are not foreplay. She warns he needs to keep her happy. In her mind, they’re still married. Jack says he regrets what happened on the yacht and wants his wife back. Patty informs him she’s right there. Jack intones, “I. Don’t. Want. You.” Patty urges him to fake it ‘til he makes it or his wife will pay the price.
Jack declares he will never want her, but Patty reminds him they almost broke the bed on the yacht. She tries to get him to feel her up, but he cringes. The only reason they’re speaking is because she’s threatened his wife. Patty, relentless, urges him to let go of the guilt. He pushes her away again.
Patty starts ranting about the soul-sucking years she spent locked away. “I deserve this, Jack.” Jack denies being the reasons he was locked up and taunts, “Markham is calling the shots, isn’t he?” Patty can’t hurt Diane because Laurence won’t let her. Patty grits her teeth, “I’m really getting upset.”
Patty tells Jack that when he cheated on her with Diane all those years ago, the pain turned to darkness. Diane can stay alive, but she needs to stay away. All he has to do is make love to her. With that, she drops her robe. “Choose me, Jack. Choose me right now.”
Jack looks away, which irks Patty. He hands her the robe and asks, “Aren’t you tired of this?” Undeterred, she informs him, “Tonight will happen.” Jack concedes that he was selfish and cruel when he married her… but he got past it. “Somehow, you didn’t.” Patty hollers, “I didn’t come this far to take no for an answer, Jack. You will come upstairs and you will make love to me!” If not, she’ll call the doctor and have him release Diane to her care.
Patty trots upstairs and Jack pulls out a phone. “You’re not going to call any doctor, Patty.” In the bedroom, Patty liberally sprays the perfume that Jack thinks could “gag a maggot,” puts on swanky music and flashes to the yacht. “Fate has plans for us, Jack. So do I.” As she rolls around on the bed, Jack groans on the stairs. He texts Kyle and goes up to deal with the “unwanted guest.”
Broken Glass and Canapes
At Laurence’s house, Diane paces the house cursing Markham, but pretends to be talking about Jack in case Markham has cameras. She pulls out the burner phone she stole from the drawer to try and guess the password and then screams at the sound of breaking glass.
Diane calls out, “Who’s there?” Kyle appears and she runs into his arms.
Kyle gives Diane the rundown on how he and Jack figured out she was there. Markham told them she didn’t want to hear from them. Diane says he’s a liar and wants to leave. Kyle gave the dogs all the beef he could carry, but now they’re stuck. They brainstorm in a panic until headlights appear. Diane gasps, “He’s back!” Kyle wants to confront the doctor, but his mother asks her son to trust, “Just hide.”
Laurence enters and finds Diane perched on the sofa, waiting. He asks why she’s flushed. Kyle listens from the next room as she tells him she kept his food ready. She hands him a drink and his sleeping pill-laced canapes. When she runs off to the kitchen, Kyle hears Laurence leaving Patty a terse message about texting him and then blowing him off. After tonight, this situation has to change.
Kyle lurks as Markham eats his canapes and pours Diane wine. She talks about developing feelings for him and gets up close and personal. Laurence admits he has strong feelings for her as well and moves in for a kiss. But the sleeping pills are kicking in. She brags that she drugged him and calls, “You can come out now.” Kyle appears, gritting, “You sick sonofabitch.”
Markham slurs that he wants to call the police, but they shove him into a chair. Kyle warns he’s messed with the wrong family. Diane digs a massive key ring out of his pocket and Kyle starts trying to unlock the door.
Calling Her Bluff
Back at the Abbott house, Jack’s made his way to the bedroom, where Patty’s draped seductively in the bed. He tells her nothing will happen tonight. He’s calling her bluff. “Kyle is with Diane right now. They’re on the way home.” He pulls out her phone and says he used it to lure Markham away. “It’s all over, Patty. My wife is coming home to me.”
Patty’s not buying what Jack is selling, but he explains the message he sent came from her. He shows her, taunting that she’s losing her grip. Patty rants that she loved him…so deeply… his whole entire life. He breaks her heart every time. She’s going to call the doctor now. “You just sentenced Diane to death.”
The Final Scenes
At Markham’s house, Diane tells the unconscious doctor he’s a sick, twisted man. Suddenly, his phone starts going off. Diane gawps, “It’s Patty. Do I dare?” Kyle nods, “Oh, I think you do.” Diane answers, “Hello, Patty. Guess who?”
At the Abbott house, Patty throws the phone on the bed, screaming, “This is a trick, Jack!” Jack tells her she failed and orders her out of his house. Patty exits and Jack grabs the phone, “Diane are you still there?” He becomes emotional when she says Kyle is with her. Jack tearfully urges her to come home soon and be safe. Kyle springs the lock and she tells Jack they’re on their way.
Jack speaks to Diane and Kyle again when they’re in the car. They explain that Diane drugged Laurence via food. Kyle will make sure the cops are there to deal with him when he wakes up. Jack reports that Patty is gone (or is she?)…
Jack disconnects and is shocked to find Patty standing there looking at him.
In the car, Diane tells Kyle how much she missed her family. Her son thinks she came up with a genius plan. Diane’s relieved to be out of that house. Kyle hopes she’ll come home, but assures her she doesn’t have to decide now. Diane never stopped loving Jack and wants to go home to him.
At the Abbott house, Jack’s irked. He thought that Patty had left. She strokes his hair and tells him she’s loved him all her life. This is what real love looks like, he just never understood. With that, she pulls him into a kiss and plunges a huge knife into his belly.
As they fall slowly to the floor, she tells him she believes in the afterlife. They’re going to be together forever.
