At the outdoor café, Jack complains to Kyle about Patty’s gawdawful quiche and asks what happened when he followed Laurence. Kyle says he went to a place out in the woods on the outside of town near Power Lake. Jack wonders if he’s holding Diane there.
Kyle hopes Diane’s not being held there because it’s a gated off fortress. His research revealed that it’s Dr. Markham’s private home. They discuss Patty’s contention that Markham was sent by Diane’s therapist, who, they realize, doesn’t exist. Another concern? Laurence claimed Patty is cured… something is really off.
Kyle wants to go over there, but Jack warns they have to tread lightly or they will move Diane. Kyle’s floored to hear that Patty plans on becoming Jack’s wife. He finds all of this as ludicrous as we do. Deciding Laurence is a quack, they declare they have to find Diane before she gets hurt.
Probing Diane
At Laurence’s house, he asks Diane if she’s ready to explore her feelings and find out how she ended up there. Diane cryptically replies that she wants the answer to that question more than he knows. Sitting, Laurence advises Diane to think of him as an old, trusted friend and starts probing about her finding her husband on a yacht with another woman.
Diane asks how he knows about that. He claims she was rambling about it when he found her on the side of the road. Diane balks at discussing it, so he probes about her marriage instead. Diane explains it was as close to perfect as she’s ever gotten… and she thinks Jack felt the same.
Laurence talks about love being a construct of attachment, a madness. Diane squints, “Surely, you’ve been in love before.” Laurence deflects, going back to the night on the yacht. Diane dives in, becoming emotional as she talks about Patty’s obsession with Jack, and discovering them together in the stateroom. She describes the shock, rage, and pain…though it wasn’t totally Jack’s fault. He ventures, “Because of the drugs?”
Startled, Diane asks how he knew about that. Laurence again claims she told him the night he found her. He informs her that ecstasy wouldn’t have erased Jack’s ability to reason. Processing the betrayal, Diane cries, admitting she questioned if it happened because she lacked something. At the same time, she hated herself for being unable to forgive Jack.
Confession Time
At the Club, Victoria runs into Claire, who notices she’s been crying and asks about Nikki’s appointment. Victoria covers, lying that they don’t have results yet. Claire confesses that she tried getting her grandparents together for brunch… but it may have made matters worse.
They go over their frustration and Claire admits she told Victor about Nikki’s headaches. Victoria shrugs that she wants her dad to know what’s going on… especially now. Given her loaded words, Victoria confesses that Nikki’s diagnosis is worse than she imagined.
Once she’s dialed in, Claire tries getting her mind around her grandmother potentially losing her eyesight. Victoria warns she can’t tell anyone… especially her grandfather. Claire wonders if she’ll tell him herself when he went up there.
Victor’s Visit
In her suite, Nikki is researching the risks of surgery when a knock comes at the door… it’s Victor. She reluctantly lets him in, where he explains that Claire is upset about their separation and told him about her headaches. After the episode yesterday, he’s concerned it’s more serious than stress.
Nikki scoffs when Victor asks her to be honest and lies that she’s fine. The headaches are stress induced. Victor asks about the blurred vision (courtesy of Claire), and says he knows she was in excruciating pain. Still insisting she’s fine, Nikki thanks him for his concern, admitting she hasn’t told Nicholas, who has enough on his plate. They bicker about Matt Clark living on the ranch and Victor wonders if her headaches are self-induced.
Offended, Nikki informs Victor that he’s the cause of her stress by putting a criminal in the house with her children and grandchildren. She orders him out of her room, handing him her wedding rings as he goes. He grabs them, points at her, and exits. Outside the closed door, Victor looks shook.
Heading downstairs, Victor runs into Claire and Victoria, who is dismayed to hear that he argued with her mother. She suggests some time apart. Victor suspects she’s keeping something from him about her mother’s health.
The Final Scenes
At the outdoor café, Kyle wants to call the authorities and bring his mother home, but Jack won’t allow it. Kyle decides he’ll break into Markham’s house himself. Jack wants him to back off, but Kyle argues they’re out of options and are in a race against time… especially if Patty decides to use the “until death do us part” proposition and then his mom’s life will be at risk!
At Laurence’s house, Diane admits that Jack forgave her for faking her death, but a part of her never really believed it was real. When the night on the yacht happened, she saw it as proof that she really never had his heart. She couldn’t forgive him. Laurence shrugs, “Maybe you shouldn’t.” Maybe it’s a sign… to move on.
At the Club, Nikki lets Nate into her suite and reminds him she doesn’t want anyone to know about her condition other than Victoria. He’s seen her MRI and warns that putting together the right surgical team will be key. Nikki blurts, “Will you do it? I’d trust you with my life.” Nate reminds Nikki he can’t operate anymore. Distressed, she admits she’d forgotten. She’s just so worried. Nate will help her find an excellent surgeon, but she’ll need all the support she can get.
In the dining room, Victor crabs about Nikki stonewalling him and keeping things from him… it pisses him off. He thinks Claire and Victoria are doing the same thing and asks them to be honest with them.
