In the June 9 episode of Beyond the Gates, The Young and the Restless’ Victor Newman touches down in Fairmont Crest to lend his weight to a fundraiser benefiting Congressman Martin Richardson. But the Genoa City tycoon isn’t just supporting a politician he believes in, he’s repaying a debt to Martin’s grandfather, Vernon Dupree.
“He obviously helped Victor, I presume, get certain things through Congress,” the Emmy winner tells Soaps.com. “We are talking big-time here! He must have been helpful!”
Victor Newman For President?
Given how much The Mustache likes to wield control — of literally everything — it’s a wonder that he hasn’t run for office himself. (Wife Nikki made a bid for a Senate seat in 2007.) Does Braeden think that his on-screen counterpart ever would throw his hat into the ring? “That’s a very good question,” he muses. “Would I personally, at this age, 85? No. It’s a very difficult job.
“However negatively one can talk about certain politicians, it’s a damn difficult job,” he adds, “to put yourself out there, for anyone to rip you apart.”

Was the Grass Greener On the Other Side?
By contrast, Braeden says that crossing over to Beyond the Gates was as easy as can be. Well, except for one thing. “It was bloody cold! Freezing in Atlanta!” he says. “But [the cast and crew] couldn’t have been more welcoming. I felt at home immediately.
“Great studio, by the way,” he hastens to mention. “Much better than our own! That is luxury! It’s an old film studio!”
