A critical Monday in Genoa City just changed the stakes for everyone.

Billy and Cane’s Surprise Visitor

Billy and Cane both got an ominous message to meet at GCAC about Jill. They were surprised when Jill herself walked through the door (played temporarily by Lauren Koslow).

Jill explained she was there to discuss Chancellor and told Cane that she knew Lily was putting him in charge. Billy was taken quite aback, as though this was news to him. He had a lot of questions, like how Victor could be okay with that.

Billy wondered how many free chances Cane gets, no matter how many people he screwed over. He asked several more questions, then Jill told him none of it mattered and to just congratulate Cane. “Did I ever have a shot? Is this what the two of you wanted all along?” Billy asked. Jill reminded Billy that it was the situation that Katherine had in place before she passed.

Billy told them he had news as well: he and Sally were getting married and having a baby. Cane said that was amazing news and congratulated them, but Jill grimaced that that was how she found out. Billy reminded her she didn’t take his calls.

Billy said that he was letting go of everything that didn’t bring him joy, and that included Chancellor – but he wasn’t ready to congratulate Cane. When Cane insisted that he didn’t ask for the position, Billy thought it was convenient the way it all worked out. Jill took a swipe that Billy helped Phyllis steal Victor’s company out from under him.

Billy Forces Jill to Explain Why He Was Never Good Enough

Billy corrected how Cane was the one who took the company, and he couldn’t enjoy his victory parade before Phyllis screwed him over. Cane admitted he wanted revenge, but Billy recounted how he made an AI program for money and power. He had no idea how Cane convinced Lily to forgive him.

Billy and Cane argued, growing louder, until Jill yelled at them to stop. Cane told Billy he was jealous of his corner office at Chancellor, and that Jill approved. “You can’t stand me in that chair,” Cane added.

Billy said he learned a long time ago not to accept his mother’s approval. “But you want it. You’re desperate for it,” Billy replied. Jill told them both not to discuss it anymore.

However, Billy wanted to know why Jill was okay with Cane running Chancellor but not him. Jill agreed that Billy had big ideas, but felt she did the right thing by taking it from him and giving it to Victor. “So much for him being over Chancellor,” Cane snickered to Jill.

Billy told Cane to shut up and said that Jill was going to tell him right then why he wasn’t good enough. He said it just sat there and festered, so she needed to look him in the eye and tell him why he wasn’t good enough. “Because that’s actually the only way I’m going to get over this,” Billy told her.

The Newmans Wait For News From The Hospital

Holden and Claire at Chancellor Park
Holden and Claire | The Young and the Restless | CBS

Nick, Victoria, and Claire went to Crimson Lights for food and coffee while Nikki had her surgery. They asked Sharon and Noah to come and told them about Nikki’s condition when they got there.

Holden saw Claire at the counter and told her he knew from his mom what was going on. Nick and Victoria credited Stephanie for arranging for the surgeon to come. They told him about Nikki losing her vision before surgery, and Holden was encouraging and supportive.

Holden and Claire went for a walk in the park. She reminisced about spending time there with Nikki and how she became part of the family. Claire got emotional talking about it, and how it changed her life when she finally felt safe and loved.

Back at Crimson Lights, Sharon and Noah talked to Nick about their concerns that the stress over Nikki could cause him to relapse. He said that he was doing okay, but did come to the conclusion that he needed their support to get through it. Nick apprehensively asked if they could drive him to his meetings. He said they didn’t need to stay, but if they could make sure he went, then that would be helpful. Noah and Sharon were happy that he asked.

Nikki’s Surgery

Victor stayed in Nikki’s hospital room while she was in surgery. He recounted the fight they’d had when she gave him her wedding rings. His thoughts varied from flashbacks of all of their fights and attempts at discussions this year, and how they became estranged.

Stephanie checked in and said she’d come from the OR and things were progressing properly. She said it was too soon to know if Nikki’s vision would be truly gone, but assured him all would be done that was humanly possible.

Victor noted that Stephanie was instrumental in saving Malcolm’s life, but she said Cane deserved more of the credit. Stephanie told him that she knew Malcolm and Neil well, and that she’d also moved to Genoa City to be closer to her son, Holden. As Victor noted that Holden and Claire were together, Victoria returned.

A short time later, Victoria called Nick and Claire and told them that Nikki was out of surgery. Just after they got to the hospital, Nikki returned from surgery. Dr. Nottingham came in and told the family that she was able to remove the entire mass. “We’re going to get you through this,” Victor promised Nikki as she lay sleeping.
