A controversial storyline is about to rock Genoa City, and fans are already in absolute disbelief.

On Wednesday, June 24th, The Young and the Restless Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) will ask Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) on a first date.

Key Highlights

  • Matt plans to ask Phyllis on a date
  • Would Phyllis really go out with Sharon’s rapist?
  • Nick and Sharon would never approve
  • Phyllis and Matt are set to run into Noah at the Shadow Room
  • Victor may be the only person who might accept Phyllis and Matt as a couple
  • Michelle Stafford and Roger Howarth were paired as Nina and Franco on General Hospital

Phyllis Will Be Shocked by Matt’s Date Request

When he asks her out, Phyllis will be somewhat befuddled. After all, she set him up with Victor Newman (Eric Braden). Yet, Matt is genuinely enamored with her.

That said, would Phyllis really accept a date with Sharon Newman’s (Sharon Case) rapist? Not to mention, the father of her daughter, Summer Newman (last played by Allison Lanier).

Sharon would obviously object to Phyllis having any involvement with Matt, but Phyllis may be willing to give him a chance.

After all, he did save Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) life. Spoilers hint that Phyllis and Matt may have their first date at the Shadow Room. Plus, Phyllis has had much more interaction with the “new” Matt than Sharon has.

Noah Newman (Lucas Adams) will try to provoke him, and Phyllis will physically come between them. It’ll be interesting to see everyone’s reactions if Phyllis and Matt strike up a romance.

Of course, Nick would probably be livid as well. Ironically, the only person I see accepting it on any level is the Great Victor Newman (Eric Braden) himself.

So far, Victor has been willing to give Matt a chance to “redeem” himself. Oddly enough, he’s “testing” him by making him spy on Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn).

It doesn’t exactly make sense, but Victor has been far more generous with Matt than anyone else in Genoa City, especially after he saved his son, Nick’s life.

There Will be Pushback from Several People if Phyllis Agrees to Date Matt

We fully expect pushback from several people in town if Phyllis shows up at the Shadow Room with Matt as her date.

It’s possible that Phyllis doesn’t really know the dark side of Matt, so that she may say yes to his shocking date request. However, she’s heard all about Matt’s numerous crimes from Nick and Sharon.

Additionally, some fans have noticed a genuine spark between Phyllis and Matt, which isn’t exactly surprising.

Of course, General Hospital fans know that Roger Howarth and Michelle Stafford were also paired when Stafford played Nina Reeves, and Howarth played Franco Baldwin on the ABC soap. They were a fan-favorite couple.

Matt also seems genuinely committed to becoming a better man. He is remorseful for his past sins and wants to make amends.

It’s entirely up to those Matt has wronged whether to afford him that opportunity, and it would be perfectly understandable if they didn’t.

Although we must admit there is something very endearing about Matt in the role of Roger Howarth. We hope he is sincere in his desire to improve himself.

We can definitely see Matt and Phyllis becoming a couple. Nick and Sharon will likely never approve. Regardless, it will be fun to see Howarth and Stafford’s magical chemistry shine on-screen.
