Phyllis and Matt are meeting for coffee, and Matt is thanking her for rescuing him from his meeting with Cane without giving up any details about him.
Phyllis admits that she has her own reasons for keeping Cane at a distance. Matt guesses that Phyllis is looking to cash in for her favor to him, and she does. She wants to know why Victor wants him to get close to Cane.
Matt wants to talk about anything else, and Phyllis reminds him that she told him to watch his back with Victor, and he doesn’t seem to be doing that.
Matt turns the conversation back to Cane, and Phyllis explains that she lost interest in “Dumas” the moment she learned who was behind the mask.
Matt worries that his own facade can’t last long; someone is going to figure out who he really is. He thinks Cane can offer him meaningful advice on how to build a new life from nothing. Matt complains that he hates what he’s done in the past and wants to turn the page, starting now.
Phyllis doesn’t think Cane can help and Matt presses on, saying he remembers every horrible thing he’s ever done and he desperately needs to move on.
Phyllis says she understands, but she thinks showering Cane with “false praise” is not something he’d do on his own, so she knows Victor has put him up to it.
Matt asks what that would mean to Phyllis if it were true: is she worried about Cane?
Matt goes on to explain that he read on the internet that she stole Newman Enterprises from Cane, and besides that he can tell that things between her and Cane are not good.
Phyllis suspects Matt actually got all this from Victor.
Matt suggests that Phyllis is trying to protect him and wonders why she cares since she’s not interested in dating him.
Phyllis says that Matt shouldn’t align himself with Cane if he wants to demonstrate that he’s a changed man. Matt admits that he doesn’t want to be the kind of person other people are afraid of. Phyllis says that she can see that his past causes him pain, and he says she may be the only one who can see that.
Matt asks what he should actually do, assuming that turning to Cane for friendship is the wrong path.
Phyllis again brings it back to Victor, saying Matt should avoid being under his thumb. Matt says this is her prescribing her own independent lifestyle to him, and she says it works.
Phyllis says if Matt is going to get philosophical, she’ll need a stronger drink. Matt suggests the Shadow Room, and Phyllis reminds him that they were thrown out the last time they went there. She predicts Noah will do the same again this time, and doesn’t know why Matt would want to hang around there, anyway.
Matt admits that the Shadow Room is uncomfortable for him, but he needs to acknowledge his past and work through it. He realizes that she was right about his philosophical mood.
Phyllis asks if Matt really thinks he can let go of the man he used to be, and Matt hopes so. He thinks he can become worthy of great things. Phyllis agrees that’s a good philosophy and walks away; Matt moves to follow.
Abbott Mansion – Patty Blames Diane for Jack’s Injuries While Diane Tries to Tear Her Apart in Front of the Police
Kyle and Diane are arriving, and Diane is chattering about how happy she is to be back while Jack lies on the dining room floor, near death. He can’t cry out, so he tries to pull the tablecloth off the table to make some noise. He can’t seem to manage it in his weakened state, so his arm collapses back to the floor while Kyle calls out for him from the living room.
Kyle can’t find Jack; he’d expected him to be waiting at the door for their arrival.
Jack finally manages to pull the tablecloth, and Kyle and Diane hear the crash.
They move to investigate and find Jack bleeding out on the floor, sending them both into a panic.
Kyle gets emergency services on the phone and tells them about Jack’s condition.
Diane finds the knife on the floor and realizes that Patty must have done this.
Diane warns Kyle that Patty could still be in the house.
Kyle concludes that Patty must have heard of Diane’s escape and turned on Jack.
The doorbell rings and the paramedics file in and get to work.
Kyle talks to the police officer who has arrived with them, who tells him all he heard from dispatch is that a woman was responsible. Kyle explains that they suspect Patty Williams is responsible, and adds that she may still be somewhere in the house.
Detective Burrow enters and takes control of the scene. Kyle sees him and goes to discuss things with him.
Kyle explains Diane’s rescue, and the detective criticizes his choice not to involve police sooner.
Kyle relates the tale of finding Jack on the floor, and says he knows Patty is responsible.
Upstairs, a pair of officers discovers Patty hiding behind her bed, covered in blood.
Patty begs them, “Don’t let her hurt me again!” She blames Diane for Jack’s condition and says that Diane also slashed her arms. She claims to be the one who called the police and asks if Jack will be okay.
Back in the dining room, Kyle and Diane are standing over the paramedics as they work. Jack’s blood pressure has dropped, and they can no longer find a pulse. They charge up the defibrillator paddles.
Diane wants to ride along in the ambulance, but Kyle suggests they follow in his car instead.
Patty comes down the stairs and Diane tries to attack her. Patty takes advantage of Diane striking first to cast her as the true villain.
Diane doesn’t do herself any favors, and continues to launch herself at Patty, having to be pulled back by Kyle and the police officers present.
Patty shows off her own wounds and accuses Diane again. She claims Jack was ready to move on with her, and she stood between them when Diane attacked with the knife.
Patty demands that Diane be arrested before she hurts anyone else. She adds that she escaped from her therapist’s care, and points out that Diane has blood on her hands, proving her guilt.
Diane says Patty orchestrated her kidnapping and tried to kill Jack. She tries to attack Patty again.
Patty says she’s going to the hospital to be with Jack instead, and Kyle finally speaks up, saying she’s never going to be near Jack again.
Detective Burrow says neither Patty nor Diane is going anywhere right now.
The Shadow Room – Audra Does Her Best to Ruin Sienna’s Night
Sienna is working the bar but has a phone to her ear. She’s asking Noah about Nikki, and he tells her that Nikki kicked them out of her hospital room so they could all get some rest.
Noah says he’s unable to rest, and he could be at the club. Sienna says there’s nothing he’s missing out on, and he tells her that he’s missing out on her. She can tell he’s tired and asks him to go to bed. He suggests that she wake him up when she gets home. She needs to go tend bar and ends the conversation.
Audra walks in and spots Sienna at the bar. They lock eyes and Audra approaches the bar. Sienna tells her, “He’s not here” and Audra plays dumb.
Audra says she wasn’t sure if she could get served here, and Sienna observes that she took the chance anyway. They move seamlessly into needling one another. Audra asks if the club triggers any bad memories for her, and Sienna suggests that Audra should have the same difficulty.
Audra points out that she’s not the one with the “homicidal, drug-dealing husband.” Sienna decides she’s not in the mood for this and rushes Audra to order her drink. Audra isn’t ready to decide, and Sienna tells her that if she’s waiting for Noah, he won’t be coming by.
Audra doubts Sienna is being truthful and asks if she’s speaking as the owner or Noah’s girlfriend. Sienna congratulates Audra for recognizing that she is Noah’s girlfriend, adding that that means Audra is not. Audra strikes back, simply saying, “For now.” Sienna takes this as her cue to walk away.
When Sienna draws near again, Audra asks if Noah is hiding from Sienna in the back. Sienna briefly fires back and keeps working.
Audra keeps digging and Sienna notes that she’s talking to herself.
Eventually, Sienna admits that there’s a family emergency, but she can’t really explain the details. She adds that if Noah wants her to know, he’ll tell her.
Noah arrives and spots the two of them sniping one another at the bar.
Noah greets Sienna with a kiss and welcomes Audra back to the club. Audra says she hopes everything’s okay with Noah’s family. Noah explains that Nikki had a procedure but is resting comfortably.
Audra tries to throw Sienna under the bus, saying that she wouldn’t have asked if Sienna hadn’t mentioned it. She says that she understands privacy. Sienna just smiles, appreciating the irony in Audra’s lies.
The Shadow Room – Matt and Phyllis Admit They Care About Each Other and Phyllis Agrees to a Date
Phyllis and Matt arrive and Phyllis asks if he’s okay. Matt says he is.
Noah spots him and moves to object. He demands to know why they’ve come. Matt offers to leave but says he’s just trying to deal with his past. Noah isn’t buying it, and Phyllis tries to defend Matt as a changed man. Matt promises they won’t be any trouble, and Noah warns Phyllis not to trust him.
Phyllis complains that Victor is using Matt, and Noah argues that her testimony isn’t worth much considering she stole Victor’s company. Phyllis points out that she gave it back and says, “We’re all over it, now.” She asks if they can stay.
Noah says he or another server will handle their orders, and warns them to stay away from Sienna.
After Noah leaves, Matt points out that Phyllis was defending him again. He doesn’t understand why she cares how people see him. She admits that she cares about him. Matt points out that the last time she said that to him was immediately before she knocked him unconscious. He says he doesn’t trust her.
At the bar, Audra says it’s weird to have Matt in here. She says her encounter with Matt at the park freaked her out, and says Noah protected her from Matt.
Sienna suggests he would have confronted Matt even if Audra weren’t there.
Noah comes behind the bar and warns them both to avoid Matt. Audra takes this as confirmation that he’s protective of her. Noah warns them they can’t let their guard down because he doesn’t believe Matt has truly changed.
After Noah leaves them alone, Sienna tells Audra that no one likes a suck-up. Audra demands service, and Sienna points out she hasn’t ordered yet. She orders a drink and Sienna gets to work.
Noah returns to Matt and Phyllis and tells Matt that he told Audra to avoid him, and wants him to avoid her, too.
After Noah leaves Matt decides he wants to hear more about how Phyllis cares for him. She says she gets him, and she knows what it’s like to be dismissed and have your sins “stapled to you forever.” Matt says her sins can’t compare to his, and she asks if he’s sure about that.
Phyllis says she’s sorry she hurt him. She says she likes their friendship and hopes he’ll believe her.
Noah speaks to Audra alone, saying Sienna is a good bartender. Audra asks how he is, and he admits he should be in bed, and he’s bothered that Matt is here.
Matt tells Phyllis that she’s really hot, and that probably clouds his judgment. He thinks she should avoid crossing Victor, and Phyllis insists that she’s not scared of him.
Phyllis says Matt would have better luck with Cane if he weren’t working for Victor.
Matt can’t understand Phyllis’s game. He says she’s wearing a mask, and he can’t figure out why. He wants to know what’s behind it, and he tells her he cares about her.
Phyllis finally accepts his offer of a date.
