Former Coronation Street actress Tracy Shaw has shared a heartbreaking update on her breast cancer battle after being rushed to A&E, leaving fans deeply concerned.
The 52-year-old actress took to Instagram from her hospital bed, fighting back tears as she thanked NHS staff for their dedication while revealing the frightening health setback that forced her to seek emergency treatment.
High Fever Leads to Emergency Hospital Visit
Tracy explained that she suffered repeated spikes in her temperature, prompting doctors to advise her to go to hospital despite her reluctance.
“I had really, really high temperatures yesterday and they spiked several times,” she told followers.
“I didn’t want to go to A&E in this hot weather, but my body has suffered today, so I came in early this morning.”
Although clearly exhausted, Tracy made a point of praising the doctors, nurses and emergency staff who have cared for her throughout her treatment.
‘Cancer Makes Every Hospital Visit More Difficult’
The actress admitted that visiting A&E while undergoing chemotherapy can be especially worrying because her immune system is now severely weakened.
“It isn’t easy coming in when we have cancer,” she said.
“There are lots of people here with different illnesses, and some have simply had too much to drink. When your immune system is so low, it’s really difficult getting through the department without worrying about catching something else.”
Despite her own struggles, Tracy said she was humbled watching NHS staff continue working tirelessly throughout Britain’s record-breaking heatwave.
“Everyone working in hospitals today, I salute you,” she said, thanking the medical teams for their compassion and dedication.
A Difficult Road Since Her Diagnosis
Tracy revealed in April that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer after discovering a lump in her breast.
She has since begun chemotherapy and previously spoke candidly about how challenging the treatment has been.
Appearing on Lorraine last month, she recalled suffering a severe reaction after her first chemotherapy session.
“The first dose is a real test because they don’t know how your body will react,” she explained.
“I had a reaction and ended up with thrush all over my body. You think you’ve got through the chemo, and then the side effects begin. It’s just not pleasant.”

Tracy is best known for playing beloved hairdresser Maxine Peacock on Coronation Street between 1995 and 2003 before the character was famously killed by serial killer Richard Hillman in one of the soap’s most memorable storylines.
