US president Donald Trump was captured on film seemingly ignoring prime minister Sir Keir Starmer while greeting fellow world leaders at the G7 summit, currently underway in Evian, France. The G7 comprises the globe’s seven most powerful and developed economies – the UK, USA, Canada, Japan, Germany, France and Italy.
Clips broadcast on GB News and labelled as “Breaking News” show Starmer positioned uncomfortably next to Trump, who is energetically greeting others while completely overlooking him. Starmer maintains a forced smile as Trump appears to entirely disregard him despite standing right beside each other.
Narrating the footage, a correspondent stated: “The US president brutally blanked the prime minister, as you can see on your screens now. What’s this brutal smackdown reminiscent of lonely Theresa May at the 2016 Brexit summit’s rejection? What’s this Sir Keir Starmer’s final humiliation?”

Ironically, while they aired the segment, a banner declared: “PM insists he ‘gets on really well’ with the President despite no one-to-one meeting.”
Despite this obvious snub, Starmer rejected claims he was overlooked when it became clear the duo weren’t due to conduct private discussions during the summit.
Starmer maintained Trump didn’t criticise him regarding his social media restrictions for under-16s or defence spending shortcomings when they sat together at Tuesday and Monday’s events. Speaking to reporters at the summit on Tuesday, he stated: “I sat next to Donald Trump for two hours last night at dinner, which was just the G7 leaders.
“There were no listening rooms, there were no staff, no advisers. It was literally an opportunity for all of us to have a very honest and frank conversation.”, reports the Express.
He continued: “I actually spoke to Donald on Saturday before we came. We get on really well and I’ve been with him now, Saturday on the phone and last night and this morning. We’re sitting next to each other so there’s lots of room for side conversations in the margins.”
Trump is scheduled to conduct bilateral discussions with leaders from other nations, such as the UAE, Qatar and India. Starmer had previously maintained he is “not going to yield”, following sustained criticism of his stance on the Iran war from Mr Trump.
The president also launched attacks on the UK government’s agreement to transfer sovereignty of the Chagos archipelago to Mauritius, because he wanted to utilise the joint UK-US base on the island of Diego Garcia, to launch strikes on Iran.
