Doctors have informed Beverley Callard that she should have begun her radiotherapy treatment before now. The Coronation Street legend, 69, who starred as Liz McDonald on the ITV soap on and off for 30 years, revealed earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer and has been keeping fans updated on her health situation ever since.
The actress recently relocated to Ireland with her husband, Jon McEwan, so she could star in the BBC soap Fair City. She took to social media to explain how her latest appointment with her new surgeon had gone, which included the update regarding her treatment timeline, reports The Mirror.
Speaking in a new video posted to Instagram on Tuesday evening, she said: âWell I went to the hospital today at quarter past three, and they all seemed very nice, obviously theyâre new to me.
âThey are a little concerned because they think I shouldâve started the radiotherapy before now but of course because we moved house, it took a while for my medical records to come from England to Ireland et cetera but theyâve all arrived [now].â
The former Iâm A CelebrityâŠSouth Africa star then explained that she has another appointment later this week and will begin treatment at some point in the near future.
She said :âIâve got to go back on Thursday morning to see some more doctors and medical people and then they will begin it soon so it went okay, it went okay. So I will keep you updated.â
The actress, who is also known for starring in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps alongside Sheridan Smith and Will Mellor, then captioned the post: âA trip to the breast clinic today⊠it went ok, not quite what I wanted to hear but a step forward nonetheless Hoping to get started as soon as possible!â
At the end of the Bank Holiday weekend, Beverley thanked fans for their support and told them that she was feeling ânervousâ but ready to begin treatment.
She said: âI go see my new surgeon on Tuesday so she can see what my previous surgeon has done because obviously Iâve moved to Ireland, and then on Thursday, Iâve got my first appointment with the oncologist so Iâll be starting radiotherapy very soon. Iâm all ready for it and Iâm full of beans and really going for it.
âObviously, Iâm a bit nervous. Youâve been great, youâve sent me zillions of messages. For every single person, itâs unique and different so we will just see what happens. Thanks for all your messages â even people telling me what shampoo and conditioner to use, I really appreciate it.â
Beverley first revealed news of her diagnosis in February during an appearance on RTEâs Late Late Show, and explained that she received the diagnosis just minutes before she was due on set for her new soap role.
She said: âIâve had some tests just before I left the UK, and literally, 15, 20 minutes before I was in my dressing room at Fair City, getting ready to go on, and I was quite nervous and thinking, âI hope everybody thinks Iâm all rightâ, whatever.
âAnd my consultant rang me and said, âyouâve got to come back to the UKâ I said, âWell, I canât possibly, Iâve just taken a new jobâ. I said âIâm away for a monthâ, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
âBut Iâm fine, Iâm absolutely fine. My head was a bit mashed for the first few days. Itâs very early stages, and Iâm along with thousands of other women as well.â
