Jack finds Kyle panicking at the Abbott manse. His son explains that Diane hasn’t been seen at work or the club in days. Jack tries to find excuses, but when Kyle explains that his mom missed Harrison’s play, his father has to admit something could be wrong. Making it worse, they have to turn to Patty for help.
Jack and Kyle Corner Patty
Patty goes to Crimson Lights, worrying about Matt going silent. She corners Phyllis on the patio, and they accuse each other of using Clark. Phyllis thinks she’s not a good person and she deserves nothing. They persist in trashing each other about using “innocent” Matt. Chasing her around the cafe, Patty says that his blood will be on Phyllis’ hands.
Jack and Kyle burst in and demand to know what Patty has done to Diane. Phyllis gets a dig in at Patty and flounces off. The Abbotts lead Patty to the patio and demand answers. She’s evasive but hopes that, with Diane out of their way, Jack will remember how deep his feelings for her are. Kyle accuses her of wanting his mom out of the picture.
Nick Demands to See Matt
Nick’s family brings him to the ranch. Noah worries he’s been released too early while the others interrogate him about whether he’s really been to rehab. Nick is more concerned about where Matt is. Victor confirms that Matt is being held at a secure location on their property. Nikki joins them, also worried and eager for answers. Nick explains the little he remembers before he blacked out. They fill him in on Phyllis and Matt working together to revive him after he died. Nick is appalled. This is insane. How could they let that guy touch him? His mother is just grateful that someone saved him. Sharon is sure that something instinctual must have kicked in with Matt. Nick has to wonder why Matt would help. What’s in it for him?
The family debates what it means to get justice when the criminal can’t remember what he did. Noah and Sharon aren’t forgetting what he did to them. Neither is Nick, but he needs Matt to know why he is being punished and that he’s lost. His sister urges him to hand Matt over to the police. Nick demands to see him face-to-face first. His parents agree, so long as he agrees to head to rehab.
After Victor and Adam lead Nick away, Sharon speculates on whether Matt is still bad. Nikki gets another headache and Victoria wonders if she should see her doctor. Could this be connected to her MS? Phyllis arrives to ask after Nick. They thank her for saving him and she quickly reminds them it was Matt. Phyllis has heard all the stories about how horrible he is, but they don’t match the helpless man she knows. Nikki reminds her of all the pain she’s caused her family lately, but she’s still grateful that she saved Nick. Victoria is less grateful since Phyllis could have ended all this earlier. Phyllis blames Victor for that and admits she had to make a deal with Nick. Nikki asks what the deal was.
Nick and Matt Discuss Redemption
Nick visits Matt, who is locked in the gym. Matt has no explanation for what he did. He must have been acting on instinct. He only has flashes, but no memories. He’s sick to think he’s the man that Phyllis has told him about, but it explains why everyone hates him. Nick assumes he thinks he’s been redeemed. Matt doubts one good deed does that. At best, he hopes he’s taken a step to save his soul.
Victor and Adam Admit Try to Understand
Sitting at the chessboard, Victor admits to Adam that when he thought he’d lost his son, he would have given up his empire a thousand times to get him back. It’s hard to understand whether Matt and Phyllis did this cynically. They assume Phyllis didn’t.
The Final Scenes
Patty thinks it’s sad that Diane has played with Jack and Kyle’s hearts and abandoned them yet again. If they don’t think she can change, they need to accept that Diane can’t either. She’s likely gone for good.
Adam asks his father what happens with Matt. He thinks Victor needs to make the call because if Nick goes too far, they could lose him.
Phyllis tells Victoria and Nikki that it’s unclear if the deal is still in place. She won’t discuss it and demands to see Nick.
Nick can’t stand how clueless Matt seems. He could kill him with his bare hands and his stupid expression wouldn’t change. Nick can’t see the justice if Matt doesn’t remember. Losing it, he starts pounding on the bag before turning to Matt in a rage.
