Battle on the Beach is returning for another season of seaside competition on HGTV.

Ty Pennington will return for the show’s fifth season alongside new mentors Sarah Baeumler and Mika Kleinschmidt, as well as new judges Tristyn and Kamohai Kalama. Like seasons past, the new episodes will see the stars help teams of design duos to transform lackluster beachside homes into dream vacation properties.

The show’s Season 5 return comes nearly one year after former mentor Alison Victoria claimed the show had been canceled after four seasons. The show was one of several HGTV shows to reportedly get axed last year, including Bargain BlockMarried to Real EstateIzzy Does ItFarmhouse FixerChristina on the Coast, and The Flipping El Moussas.

Battle on the Beach did not get picked back up, which is sad because it was like adult spring break,” she said on a July 2025 episode of her Pap Smear podcast.

Shortly after the Season 5 announcement, Victoria told the Daily Mail that she should have said the show was “not renewed” rather than “canceled,” adding, “Part of me hopes that maybe they didn’t ask me back because they knew I didn’t have time. I don’t know.”

When does Battle on the Beach Season 5 premiere?

The first episode of Season 5 premieres on HGTV on Monday, June 1, at 9/8c.

What are the rules of Battle on the Beach Season 5?

“Armed with $100,000, seven weeks and invaluable advice from their respected mentors, the teams will overhaul the dated digs while navigating unprecedented design challenges, including repurposing discarded roadside finds in their homes and swapping partners for the chance at additional prize money,” reads the season’s official description.

The Kalamas will “determine which team increases the rental value of each week’s revamped space, with the winner given a critical choice: take home $3,000 now or apply $6,000 to the final grand prize,” per the description. “When the stunning renos are complete, the team who clinches the highest peak season rate for their short-term rental will claim a cash prize of at least $50,000, with their mentor boasting ultimate bragging rights.”

Who are the Battle on the Beach Season 5 teams?

Pennington will mentor mother-daughter duo Michelle Mueller and Sydney Lorence from Lincoln, Nebraska. The other two HGTV stars will each serve as a mentor to a married couple, with Baeumler working with Steven and Angelina Jacobs from Waterbury, Connecticut, and Kleinschmidt working with Josiah and Anna Julian from Baltimore, Maryland.

What will happen during the Battle on the Beach Season 5 premiere?

The two-hour season premiere will see the mentors guide their teams as they renovate their home’s living room entryway spaces. “In the kick-off challenge race through Garden City, the teams will follow clues in hopes of reaching the pier first to win a top advantage: choosing their preferred beach house and assigning the other two properties to the competitors,” reads the episode’s description. “As the season continues, the teams will design more vacation-worthy rooms, including the kitchens, dining rooms, main suites, guest bedrooms, bathrooms and exteriors.”

Was Battle on the Beach really canceled before Season 5 renewal?

Despite Victoria’s cancellation claims, Pennington exclusively told TV Insider that Battle on the Beach was never officially axed by HGTV. “I’ve been in the television industry for a long time. I just know when it comes to TV, nothing’s really canceled,” he shared. “I think that’s a big word. Sometimes, people are just re-evaluating what is doing well, what they know they want to see more of.”

He continued, “I think that fans really like that show because you really see people working very hard with their own hands. So, I think it’s one of those shows that you can tell the aggravation and the frustration of competing on a show like that, because you literally see them screaming in agony, not only with each other, but I think just at how hard it actually is. And I know that those kinds of shows resonate with fans, because we’ve all been there. We’ve all taken on a project where we’re like, ‘Why did I say yes to this?’”
