Reformâs Makerfield by-election candidate declares âtide is changingâ against Labour: âTheyâve been ignored for 40 years!â

Reform UKâs Robert Kenyon is going up against Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham in the by-election
Reform UKâs by-election candidate for Makerfield has declared the âtide is changingâ against the Labour Government, accusing the party of âtaking the people for grantedâ.
Speaking to GB News, plumber Robert Kenyon hit out at the Labour Government, criticising it for âignoring the people of Makerfield for 40 yearsâ.
Having spoken with voters in Makerfield, Mr Kenyon said the biggest issue affecting people on the doorstep is the fact they have âbeen ignoredâ by Labour.
He told GB News: âThe biggest underlying issue is they have been ignored for the past 40 years. Weâve knocked on doors that havenât had a knock on the door from any  political party in the last 40 years.
âSo the underlying reason is just being ignored, basically taken for granted that theyâre just going to vote for Labour all this time, and that tide is changing now.â
Pressed on whether he can âpromise that the people will no longer be ignoredâ, Mr Kenyon agreed â100 per centâ.
He said: âI love speaking to people on the doorsteps. Even if they are voting for Labour or whoever, Iâll still listen to them.
âTheyâve still got a voice and Iâll still represent them. If they do get elected and they do vote for a different party, Iâll still be the MP. Iâll still listen to them and represent them as best they can.â
Quizzed on Labour candidate Andy Burnham, Mr Kenyon was asked what he would do âdifferentlyâ to the Greater Manchester Mayor for the people of Makerfield.
The Reform candidate made clear: âWhat I would do differently from Andy is Iâd actually stay in the area and be the MP for this area, not try and use it as a stepping stone to other things.
Reform UKâs Makerfield by-election candidate has told GB News that the people have been âignored for 40 yearsâ
âIf Andy Burnham was elected, thereâs a very good chance that he would be our next Prime Minister and heâd never be anywhere near the area.
âSo the difference with me is Makerfield needs an MP, a local MP to listen to the people. If Andy was elected, youâd never see him in the area, so I think it would be detrimental to the people of Makerfield.â
Turning to the issues affecting Britons, Mr Kenyon highlighted that illegal migration is âone of the biggest concernsâ for voters in Makerfield.
He explained: âThe plan on illegal immigration definitely isnât working. Shabana Mahmood might put in plans to deal with net migration, but I think the biggest problem that people are feeding back to us on the streets is illegal immigration, so thatâs not working.

âThat needs to change rapidly because it puts a massive strain on our infrastructure. It puts a massive strain on our policing, our hospitals.â
Mr Kenyon revealed a lack of âregulationâ in Houses of Multiple Occupancy which accommodate asylum seekers, particularly in Wigan.
He told GB News: âYou only need to look at a place like Wigan, weâve got over 200 HMOs, maybe 300. Theyâre not regulated. We donât exactly know the people who are coming in, coming into the country illegally.
âThereâs a potential risk there, potential danger. So Iâd say that needs the attention of the Labour Party in the Government ASAP.â
Mr Kenyon told GB News that the âtide is changingâ against Labour
Asked for his verdict on Labourâs call to ban social media for under-16s, Mr Kenyon agreed with the stance of Sir Keir Starmer to implement a ban.
He said: âIâm not saying what the partyâs opinion is, but I think social media can be very toxic environments, and there are a lot of negatives that come out of social media.
âMe personally, I donât see any reason why anyone under 16 would be on social media.
âI think it could be very negative, and weâve seen a lot of mental health issues come out of it, especially for under-16s, online bullying and so on and so forth.
âSo for me personally, Iâm definitely not a fan of social media for under-16s, but thatâs just my opinion.â
